Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given pie charts compare the different sectors of time spent by working adults of a country in the year 1958 and 2008.
Overall, it is apparent that working consumed the majority part of their day during both the years, while travelling to workspace consumed least time in 1958 and family or friends outings consuming least in the year 2008.
A closer look at the pie charts depicts that in the year 1958, working consumed 33% of the total time of working adults. However, it increased to 42% in the year 2008. It can be marked that sleeping consumed almost one-third of time for the working adults of 1958, while quarter of time dedicated to sleep in the year 2008. Relaxation time at residence in 1958 was 8% compared to 13% in 2008.
Furthermore, travel time consumed due to transition between office and home consumed 2% of total time in 1958 whereas it increased by 5% in the year 2008. Family outings were allocated 19% of the total time in 1958, which is higher than the 6% allocated time for it in year 2008. Time dedicated to sports was almost equal during both the years.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main features and provided relevant comparisons between the two years. You covered all categories shown in the charts and highlighted key trends, such as the increase in working hours and the decrease in time spent on family outings. To reach a higher band, ensure that your overview is more comprehensive; for instance, you could mention the most significant shifts in the data rather than just listing individual changes. Your data selection is accurate, and the report is well-focused on the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information effectively. You use cohesive devices such as 'however', 'furthermore', and 'whereas' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved by ensuring that the comparison of categories is more fluid. The progression of ideas is generally clear, and the use of referencing is adequate, though it could be more varied to avoid repetitive sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'sectors', 'allocated', and 'transition'. However, there are some instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'working consumed the majority part of their day' and 'travel time consumed due to transition'. These collocations are slightly unnatural. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and refining your word choices to sound more natural. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'while quarter of time dedicated to sleep' (missing an article) and 'travel time consumed... consumed' (repetitive and slightly redundant). Additionally, 'during both the years' should be 'in both years'. While these errors are present, they do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, aim for more error-free sentences and a wider variety of complex grammatical structures used with greater precision.
