Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the task by describing the data from the two pie charts. However, it fails to provide a clear overview or summary of the main trends, which is a requirement for Task 1. The information is presented as a list of data points rather than a comparative analysis. While the figures for 1958 and 2008 are mentioned, the lack of synthesis and the absence of a concluding summary or comparison between the two years significantly limits the achievement of the task. The writing is descriptive but lacks the analytical approach required for an Academic Task 1 response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow. The text is essentially one long block of information. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; the transition between the description of 1958 and 2008 is abrupt, using only 'Now i am going to describe'. The progression of ideas is mechanical and repetitive, relying on simple listing rather than logical grouping of data. To improve, you should use clear paragraph breaks and a variety of linking words to compare and contrast the data points effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'good time pass' and 'fun activities' are informal and not suitable for an academic report. There is a lack of variety in reporting verbs and nouns related to data description. For example, the word 'percentage' is used repeatedly. You need to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to trends and data, such as 'accounted for', 'witnessed a rise', or 'remained stable'. The spelling of 'slepping' is also incorrect, which further impacts the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response consists mostly of simple, repetitive sentence structures. There is a lack of complex sentences, which are necessary to achieve a higher band score. Punctuation is largely absent, with many run-on sentences that make the text difficult to read. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'the adults going out... is 19%' (subject-verb agreement) and 'i will divide it into section' (missing article/pluralization). The consistent use of lowercase 'i' is also a recurring error that affects the overall accuracy of the writing.
