The pie charts provided illustrate how working adults in a specific nation spent their time in 1958 and 2008. Overall, the percentage of time spent in outing with family and friends decreased significantly, while the time for sleep declined by a comparitively smaller percentage. In contrast, the amount of time invested in working, traveling, and relaxing increased considerably, while the time spent in playing sports stayed the same throughout the period
In 1958, going out with family was a common practice as 19% of the time was spent in this activity, but in 2008 the percentage of time spent in this practice fell to less than one-third of its previous figure. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the main trends and supported these with relevant data from the charts. The comparison between 1958 and 2008 is well-handled, and you have successfully identified the key features, such as the significant decrease in time spent with family and the increase in working hours. The data is accurate, and the selection of information is appropriate for a summary. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview is even more distinct from the body paragraphs and consider grouping the data more logically to highlight the most striking contrasts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. The use of cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'On the other hand' helps to guide the reader through the information effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the specific data points. The progression of ideas is smooth, and referencing is generally clear. To improve further, ensure that the transition between the overview and the detailed analysis is seamless and avoid minor mechanical repetition of sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'common practice', 'dedicated to', and 'remained constant' are used effectively. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'comparitively' (spelling) and 'outing with family' (collocation), but these do not impede communication. You have attempted to use less common vocabulary, which is a positive step. To achieve a higher score, focus on refining your collocations and ensuring precise word choice, such as using 'socializing' instead of 'outing' and ensuring consistent spelling throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the grammar is generally accurate. There are occasional slips, such as '2% time was spent while travelling' (word order) and 'made a small jump to become' (slightly awkward phrasing). However, these errors are infrequent and do not cause difficulty for the reader. You have shown good control over punctuation and sentence construction. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures to demonstrate greater flexibility.
