Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully identifies the main features of the data and makes relevant comparisons between the two years. You have highlighted the key trends, such as the increase in working hours and the decline in social activities. However, the overview could be more precise; for instance, stating 'working was the most dominant in all activity' is slightly awkward. Additionally, the inclusion of 'playing sports' at the end feels a bit disconnected from the rest of the analysis. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are integrated into a cohesive narrative rather than listing them in isolation. Overall, you have addressed the prompt effectively and provided a clear summary of the provided information.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'meanwhile', 'in contrast', and 'whereas' to link ideas. However, the paragraphing is a bit uneven, and some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The flow between the overview and the specific data points is generally smooth, but the final sentence about sports feels like an afterthought rather than a well-integrated point. Improving the variety of linking phrases and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'drastic decline', 'considerable increase', and 'accounted for'. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'most dominant in all activity', which is not standard collocation. You also have some minor errors in phrasing, such as 'the last period', which is slightly ambiguous in this context. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that your word choices are consistently natural. The vocabulary used is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'The pie charts illustrates' (subject-verb agreement) and 'most common activity done by working adults' (which could be phrased more concisely). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some spacing issues between sentences. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of complex sentence structures will help you achieve greater accuracy and fluency in your future writing.
