Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While the report identifies the main features of the pie charts and makes some comparisons, the analysis is superficial. The overview is underdeveloped, and the data reporting is repetitive, relying heavily on listing percentages rather than synthesizing the information. The failure to reach the minimum length, combined with the lack of a clear, analytical summary of the trends, means the task is only partially addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the flow is mechanical and lacks sophisticated cohesive devices. The use of linking words is limited, and the progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed. For example, the transition between the 1958 data and the 2008 data is abrupt. While the paragraphing is present, the internal structure of the paragraphs is repetitive, often starting sentences with the same phrasing. To improve, you should use a wider variety of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'highest', 'lowest', and 'percentage'. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'iin', 'goinng', and 'yeras'. The phrase 'playing store' is likely a misinterpretation of the data, which indicates a lack of precision in vocabulary usage. To reach a higher band, you need to use a more varied range of vocabulary, including synonyms and more precise terms to describe trends and proportions, while ensuring accurate spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the proportion of the day'), incorrect verb forms, and punctuation issues (e.g., inconsistent spacing and capitalization). The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with little evidence of complex grammatical forms. Errors such as 'in both the years the percentage of working is highest' demonstrate a lack of control over basic sentence construction. Improving your accuracy with articles, subject-verb agreement, and sentence variety is essential for a higher score.
