Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response provides a clear overview and identifies key trends, such as the increase in working hours and the decline in sleep. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum, which limits the depth of the analysis. While the main features are selected, the development is somewhat constrained by the length. To improve, you should expand on the comparisons between categories and ensure that all data points are fully integrated into a more detailed narrative. Because the response is under the word count, it cannot reach the higher bands for task achievement despite the accurate reporting of the data provided in the charts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, a summary of trends, and a body paragraph detailing the specific data. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In contrast', and 'initially' are used to guide the reader through the information. However, the paragraphing is slightly unbalanced, as the entire body of the analysis is compressed into two short paragraphs. Improving the flow by using more sophisticated linking phrases and ensuring a more balanced structure would enhance the coherence. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the brevity of the text makes the overall structure feel somewhat underdeveloped.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'upward trend', and 'accounted for' correctly. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, such as 'significantly' and 'heavier work load'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is some repetition of basic structures. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and use more precise collocations to describe the data. The vocabulary used is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, but it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the use of relative clauses ('which rose significantly') and compound sentences. There are some minor punctuation errors, such as the missing space in 'I n 1958' and the lack of a space after the period in '2008.In'. While these errors are minor and do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading. The grammatical control is generally good, and the majority of sentences are error-free, but the limited length restricts the opportunity to demonstrate a wider range of complex grammatical structures.
