Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the data, but it fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the main features. The description of the data is often confusing and inaccurate; for example, stating that 'working' was similar in both years when the charts show significant changes. The information is presented in a disorganized manner, and the comparisons are often vague or mathematically incorrect. The response lacks a clear focus on the most significant trends, and the interpretation of the pie charts is inconsistent, making it difficult for the reader to follow the data trends effectively. To improve, focus on identifying the most prominent changes and grouping data logically rather than listing figures in a disjointed way.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'After that' and 'In 1958/2008'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to track which data points are being compared. The transition between sentences is often abrupt, and the lack of clear signposting makes the overall structure feel disjointed. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the internal flow within those paragraphs is not sufficiently developed to guide the reader through the comparison of the two time periods.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic terms like 'source', 'dominant', and 'prefer', which are often used incorrectly in this context (e.g., referring to categories as 'sources'). There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the lowest sources was contribute' and 'mostly adult prefer working'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the information being presented. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'category', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable', and work on improving the accuracy of word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the pie chart illustrate', 'the lowest sources was contribute'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence structures. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the simple sentences used often contain errors that distract the reader. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and capitalization. While the meaning is generally discernible, the persistent grammatical inaccuracies significantly limit the quality of the writing. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be a beneficial next step.
