Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data and makes relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008. You successfully identified the key trends, such as the increase in working hours and the stability of travel time. However, the overview is slightly weak; while you mention an upward trend in work, it could be more clearly stated as the primary shift. Additionally, some data points are slightly imprecise (e.g., 'quarter of a chunk' is informal and vague). To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview highlights the most significant changes across the entire period rather than just focusing on one category.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the two years. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Alongside', and 'In the year', which help the flow. However, the use of 'Alongside' is repetitive and sometimes used incorrectly at the start of sentences. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between sentences could be smoother to avoid a list-like feel. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used in the correct context would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information, using terms like 'proportions', 'dedicated', and 'upward trend'. However, there are instances of awkward or unnatural word choices, such as 'expedition to office' (which is not standard for commuting) and 'fatigue control' (which is unclear). The phrase 'quarter of a chunk' is also inappropriate for an academic report. To improve, focus on using more precise, academic collocations and avoid informal or overly creative phrasing when describing statistical data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'In both the timeline' (should be 'In both timelines'), 'vast majority of the day was spent' (missing an article 'a'), and 'time dedicated for travelling to work seem to remain' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to incorporate more complex structures with greater accuracy.
