Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the data and makes relevant comparisons between the two years. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, you state that relaxing hours 'decreased from 8% to 13%', which is a mathematical contradiction, and your description of the 2008 figures for relaxing is unclear. While you identify the key trends, such as the rise in working hours and the decline in sleep, the lack of precision in reporting the data points limits the score. To improve, ensure that all figures cited are accurate and that comparisons are logically consistent.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. There is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In addition' and 'In contrast'. Furthermore, there are some referencing issues, such as the phrase 'over the year', which is used repeatedly but is not the most natural way to describe a 50-year period. The overall structure is coherent, but the flow between sentences could be improved with more varied linking words.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'proportion', 'constituted', and 'marginally'. However, there are several spelling errors ('illustate', 'diffrent', 'noticebale', 'deceased', 'subtaintially') and word choice inaccuracies ('tripple the figure', 'adult consumed their most time'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, though they do not fully impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should focus on accurate spelling and more precise collocations when describing statistical trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'proportion of adults how they spent', 'travelling to work accounted for smallest share', and 'the proportion for relaxing hours experienced a significantly decreased'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable, although the meaning remains clear. You need to work on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and verb forms to improve your accuracy. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical slips will help you achieve a higher score.
