Student answer (Band 6.5)
The two pie charts compare how working adults in a particular country spent their time over a period of 1958 and 2008 based on their day spent on various activities.
Overall, working accounted for the highest proportion of adults throughout the period, while traveling to work accounted for the lowest proportion, although going out with friends or family recorded a lower proportion in the following half century. Furthermore, sports was the only category that remained unchanged.
Regarding the percentage of adults in 1958, working was the category with the highest percentage of people, at 33%, whereas sleeping was the second-highest category falling just under working, at 32%. The remaining categories accounted for intermediate proportions, ranging from 7% to 19%. By contrast, traveling to work recorded the lowest proportion, at just 2%.
Looking at the days spent in 2008, working remained as the category with the highest percentage of people, representing 42%, whereas sleeping fell to 25% as well as sports remained unchanged, at 7%. The remaining sectors decreased and now is ranging from 6% to 13%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview of the main trends. You successfully identified the most significant changes, such as the increase in working hours and the decrease in sleeping time. However, the analysis is slightly hindered by a lack of precision in comparing the data. For instance, you mention that 'the remaining sectors decreased and now is ranging from 6% to 13%', but you do not specify which categories these are, which makes the comparison less informative. To improve, ensure that you explicitly name the categories when discussing trends to provide a more comprehensive summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Furthermore', 'Regarding', and 'By contrast' to guide the reader through the information. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the detailed data analysis. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, although some transitions between sentences could be more sophisticated to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Overall, the structure is clear and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a solid band 7.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'accounted for', and 'intermediate'. However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, particularly the frequent use of 'category' and 'percentage'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more varied synonyms and precise collocations. For example, instead of repeating 'category', you could use 'sector', 'activity', or 'area'. There are no significant spelling errors, and the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, though it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'while traveling to work accounted for the lowest proportion, although going out with friends or family recorded a lower proportion'. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'now is ranging' (should be 'now range') and 'over a period of 1958 and 2008' (should be 'between 1958 and 2008'). While these errors are present, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and using more accurate prepositions when describing time periods and data ranges.
