The pie charts below show how working adults in a particular country spent their time in 1958 and 2008.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The two pie chart compare the percentage of time that the working adults in particular country spent on six different activities in the years between 1958 to 2008.

overall, Working and sleeping accounted for the largest shares of the day in both years. Over the 50 year period, working adults spent more time on their jobs, relaxing at home, travelling to work, and playing sports while the part of time dedicated to sleeping and going out with family and friends decreased.

In 1958, working made up 33% of the day which was closely followed by sleeping at 32%. By 2008 , working

increased by 9% to become the dominant activity at 42%. so, the time spent sleeping dropped to 25% in 2008.

Significant changes were also observed in other activities . in 1958, going out with friends or family was the third largest category at 19%, but this figure plummeted drastically to just 6% by 2008. meanwhile, time spent relaxing at home rose from 8% to 13%, and travelling to work tripled, increased from 2% to 7%. finally, playing sports saw a minor increase, growing slightly from 6%in 1958 to 7 or 8% in 2008.
