Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is inconsistent and contains factual inaccuracies. For example, you state that 'going out with friends' increased, while the data shows a decrease from 19% to 6%. Furthermore, the mention of a 'ten year period' is incorrect as the charts span 50 years (1958–2008). While you identify some key trends, the misinterpretation of the data and the confusion regarding the timeframe significantly impact the accuracy of the summary. To improve, ensure you carefully verify the data points and the time intervals before writing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by poor sentence structure and punctuation. There are several instances where sentences are fragmented or run together, such as '...on various activities.in both years, accounted for the smallest activities.the going out with friends...'. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often mechanical, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each sentence is grammatically complete would greatly enhance the clarity of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive, with several errors in word choice and spelling that occasionally impede communication. Phrases like 'day spand' (time spent), 'bigure' (figure), and 'relex' (relax) demonstrate a lack of precision. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'proportions' and 'sectors', the frequent spelling errors and incorrect collocations (e.g., 'working boost to 42%') suggest a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of descriptive verbs and nouns to accurately report data trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'illustrated' instead of 'illustrate'), missing articles, and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'sleeping which decline'). Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalisation. These errors are frequent and sometimes make the meaning unclear. To reach a higher band, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct tense usage for describing data, and improving your control over punctuation.
