Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the charts and provided a clear overview. You included relevant data points to support your descriptions, such as the rise in working hours and the decline in socialising. However, there are some inaccuracies in your data interpretation. For example, you stated that working hours 'increased by 42%' in 2008, whereas the chart likely shows an increase to 42%. Similarly, you mentioned a 'decline of 25%' for sleeping, which is mathematically incorrect based on the provided percentages. To reach a higher band, ensure that your data reporting is precise and that you distinguish between an increase 'to' a value and an increase 'by' a certain amount.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organised with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'however', 'whereas', and 'in addition' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is generally clear. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid. For instance, instead of starting multiple sentences with 'In 1958', try to integrate these time markers more naturally into the structure of your sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points of the task. You use words like 'dramatically', 'considerably', and 'accounted for' effectively. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'second most thing done' and 'least involved activity'. These do not impede communication, but they limit the precision of your writing. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more academic collocations and avoiding informal phrasing. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' will also help demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'The two pie charts depicts' (subject-verb agreement) and 'many adult preferred' (pluralisation). Additionally, there are issues with preposition usage, such as 'reached to 13%' (should be 'reached 13%'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your points, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions with verbs of change will significantly improve your grammatical control.
