Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task and provides a clear overview of the main trends. You have successfully identified the key changes, such as the increase in work and the decline in sleeping. However, the report could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the two years rather than just listing the data for each year separately. For example, when discussing the rise in work from 33% to 42%, you could explicitly state that it became the most dominant activity. The data is generally accurate, though ensure that your summary highlights the most significant shifts rather than just listing every category.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'In 1958', 'By 2008', and 'In contrast' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly repetitive, particularly the use of 'Similarly' to introduce new points, which does not always fit the context of the data being presented. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the general overview to the specific data points. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases to better reflect the relationship between the data points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportions', 'significant', and 'upward trend'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'largest ratio of their day spent was on work' (should be 'proportion') and '33% of adults spent their day on working' (should be 'spent their day working'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise nouns and verbs to describe statistical changes, such as 'accounted for' or 'witnessed'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'proportions of an adult spent' (should be 'proportions of time adults spent') and 'spent their on work' (missing the noun 'time'). Additionally, there are some issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors are noticeable, they do not cause difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining your use of articles and prepositions in complex sentences.
