Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear or accurate summary of the data. The information presented is often confusing and contradictory, such as the claim that '2% of working adults in sleeping in going out with friends in 1958'. The report lacks a clear overview of the main trends, and the selection of data is disjointed. Many figures are presented without context, making it difficult for the reader to understand the comparison between 1958 and 2008. To improve, you must focus on grouping related data points and clearly contrasting the two years rather than listing isolated, often inaccurate, statistics.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'To begin with', 'Moving towards'), they are often applied incorrectly or do not help the flow of information. The referencing is frequently unclear, and the sentences often lack a logical connection to one another. For example, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. To achieve a higher score, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and that your sentences follow a logical sequence that guides the reader through the data comparisons.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are significant issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'highest ratio of working adults regarding working' and 'similar percentile of working adults'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to use precise terms to describe statistical changes or trends. To improve, focus on learning specific collocations for describing data, such as 'a significant proportion', 'a steady increase', or 'the majority of time was allocated to'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often obscure the meaning. There are issues with sentence structure, such as fragments and run-on sentences (e.g., 'Whereas, 2% of working adults in sleeping in going out with friends in 1958'). Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are also inconsistent. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty and lead to confusion. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction—ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb—before attempting more complex grammatical forms. Proofreading for basic punctuation and word order is essential.
