Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear overview or a comprehensive summary of the data. While some figures are mentioned, the analysis is superficial and lacks a logical structure. The student identifies sleeping and working percentages but fails to effectively compare the broader trends across the two years. The mention of sports is inaccurate based on typical data for this task, and the conclusion is vague and does not synthesize the information provided. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant changes and grouping data logically rather than listing individual percentages.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. Paragraphing is absent or misused, and the flow of ideas is disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences and ideas, making the text difficult to follow. Phrases like 'so after doing these periods' are unclear and do not serve as effective transitions. The progression of information is not logical, as the response jumps between years without a clear comparative framework. Improving the use of linking words such as 'whereas', 'in contrast', and 'similarly' would significantly enhance the readability and logical flow of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic phrasing such as 'spent their time' and 'the adults'. There are significant issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the things from 1958 to 2008 has been risen'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate precision or flexibility. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied terminology related to data description, such as 'remained stable', 'experienced a slight decline', or 'accounted for'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the adults who was', 'both of the years has'), tense usage, and sentence structure ('the day spent by working adults... adults sleeping 32%'). The writing lacks complex sentence structures, and the basic sentences are often poorly constructed. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with irregular spacing and capitalization errors. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring subject-verb agreement would be a necessary first step toward improvement.
