Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While the main features are identified, the analysis is incomplete. For instance, the 2008 data is severely under-reported, with several categories omitted entirely. The overview is present but lacks the depth required to highlight significant trends or comparisons effectively. To improve, you must ensure all data points are addressed and provide a more comprehensive comparison between the two years. The current length prevents a full coverage of the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by the lack of sufficient content. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Likewise' and 'In addition', but they are sometimes used incorrectly or in a mechanical fashion. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of ideas feels disjointed due to the brevity of the analysis. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words to connect sentences and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that contributes to the overall summary.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'highest percentage' and 'lowest proportion'. There are several errors in word choice and form, such as 'grown-ups' instead of 'adults' or 'working population', and 'bigeast' (spelling error). The range is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'accounted for', 'constituted', 'a significant increase', or 'a marginal decrease', and ensure you check your spelling carefully before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The two pie chart illustrates' (subject-verb agreement), 'the working grown-ups was been increased' (incorrect tense/passive voice), and 'reached at 42%' (preposition error). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, with most sentences being simple or containing errors when attempting more complex forms. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage for describing past data, and integrating more complex structures like relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions.
