Student answer (Band 6.5)
The circular charts illustrate the time spent by the employed adults in a specific country in 1958 and 2008.
Overall, the adults spent most of their time in working in both 1958 and 2008. After that, they spent it for sleeping and least time was spent on travelling to work in 1958, whereas in 2008, the least time was spent with friends and family.
In the year 1958, the majority of the time was dedicated to work, about 33%. Nearly one-third (32%) time was for sleep. In addition, 19% of time was spent on eating with friends and family. Following this, 15% of the total day was for relaxing at home and at least time for travelling to work was 2%.
In the year 2008, 42% of time was for doing work. Sleeping time was reduced by 7% from the year 1958. However, time for travelling to work was increased to 7%. Almost 13% of time was utilised for relaxing at home. Furthermore, 6% and 7% for the outing with friends and playing sports, respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the two pie charts. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the increase in working hours and the shift in leisure activities. However, the analysis is slightly uneven; while you mention the 1958 data clearly, the 2008 section lacks a direct comparison for some categories (e.g., 'eating with friends and family' is not explicitly compared to the 2008 equivalent). To reach a higher band, ensure that every category mentioned in the first year is tracked or contrasted in the second year, and provide a more cohesive summary of the overall shifts rather than just listing percentages.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Following this', and 'However' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the progression within the second body paragraph could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the 2008 data points is a bit list-like. Using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that the relationship between the two years is more explicitly stated would improve the flow and coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'dedicated to', 'utilised', and 'reduced'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'at least time for travelling' instead of 'the least amount of time' and 'outing with friends' which is slightly informal. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that your phrasing is natural. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'time was for sleeping' (should be 'spent sleeping'), 'at least time for travelling' (incorrect structure), and '6% and 7% for the outing' (missing verb). These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and articles, as well as ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically complete.
