Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response provides an overview and attempts to report on the data, but it fails to accurately interpret the figures. For instance, the claim that working time 'surged from 33% to 42%' is a misreading of the data trends, and the description of the 'sleeping cycle' is confusing. The report lacks precision, and the comparisons are often unclear or factually inconsistent with the provided charts. While the main features are identified, the lack of accuracy in reporting the data significantly impacts the task achievement, as the reader cannot rely on the information provided to understand the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. While cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'moving towards' are used, they are often applied mechanically or inappropriately. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the phrase 'while reverse was true for traveling to work,' which does not clearly link to the previous point. The flow between sentences is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of data across the two years. Paragraphing is present but does not effectively group related ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often used incorrectly. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'working ratio was surge,' 'masses in 2008 prefer to relaxing,' and 'loved once' (instead of 'loved ones'). These errors sometimes impede communication, as the intended meaning is obscured by the incorrect usage of terms. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands, and the reliance on basic or misused terminology restricts the clarity of the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Examples include 'time spend' (instead of 'spent'), 'working hold a dominating position,' and 'individual like to work more rather then other tasks.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, with random capitalisation (e.g., 'Significantly,' 'Sleeping Cycle'). While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to a lack of control over grammar. The high frequency of errors makes the text difficult to read at times.
