Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is superficial. While you identify the highest and lowest categories, the comparison between 1958 and 2008 lacks depth. For instance, you mention that working time increased from 33% to 42%, but you fail to highlight the significant shifts in other categories, such as the decrease in sleeping time or the changes in leisure activities. The overview is also weak; stating that they 'spent nearly half of the amount in the working' is factually inaccurate based on the data provided. To improve, ensure you group data logically and provide a clear, accurate summary of the trends rather than just listing percentages.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing and a lack of cohesive devices. You rely heavily on simple connectors like 'and also' or 'in additionally' (which is grammatically incorrect). The transition between sentences is often mechanical, making the text feel like a list of observations rather than a cohesive report. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words such as 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'consequently' to show the relationship between the data points. Additionally, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as one for 1958 and one for 2008, followed by a clear comparison.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You frequently use the word 'expenditure' incorrectly; it is a noun referring to the act of spending money, not time. Using 'highest amount' repeatedly to describe percentages is also imprecise. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'coming to they spent equally amount', which makes the meaning difficult to follow. To reach a higher band, you should use more precise terminology for describing data, such as 'proportion', 'allocated', 'witnessed a rise', or 'remained stable'. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and nouns will help you communicate your observations more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. You struggle with verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, such as 'working employees were spent' and 'they spent equally amount'. Sentence structures are largely simple, and there is a lack of complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with commas used incorrectly or missing in key places. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures before attempting more complex ones. Pay close attention to the correct use of passive voice (e.g., 'time was spent') and ensure that your verb forms are consistent when discussing past data.
