Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all key features of the charts and makes relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008. The overview is clear, identifying the main trends such as the increase in working time and the decline in social activities. However, the report could be improved by grouping the data more logically rather than listing each category in isolation. For instance, categorizing activities by those that increased versus those that decreased would provide a more analytical approach. The data is accurately reported, and the comparison between the two years is consistent throughout the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'however', 'furthermore', and 'although' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more refined to separate the overview from the detailed data analysis more effectively. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by varying the sentence structure to avoid repetitive phrasing, such as starting multiple sentences with 'In 1958' or 'In 2008'.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe trends and proportions clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'prevalent', 'prominent', and 'dominant'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'with an account of 33%' (should be 'accounting for 33%') and 'wheather' (spelling error for 'whether'). The phrase 'remained the dominent among all other activities' is slightly awkward. Improving the precision of these collocations would elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'adulds' (spelling), 'wheather its percentage has increased' (incorrect usage of 'whether'), and 'accounting for of 2%'. There are also minor punctuation and preposition errors throughout. The control of complex structures is inconsistent, and while the errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and prepositional accuracy would be beneficial.
