Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Furthermore, the content is underdeveloped and lacks a clear overview of the main trends. The student attempts to report data, such as 'sleeping 32% in 1958', but the information is often inaccurate or confusingly presented. Key features, such as the comparison between the two years, are not clearly articulated, and the report lacks the necessary detail to provide a comprehensive summary of the charts. The failure to reach the word count and the lack of analytical depth mean the task is only partially addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay uses some basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Secondly', and 'On the other hand', but these are often used incorrectly or do not lead to a logical flow of ideas. The paragraphing is present but the internal structure of the paragraphs is weak, with sentences that do not connect logically. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between 1958 and 2008. The overall progression of information is disjointed, and the lack of sufficient content makes the text feel fragmented.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice, such as using 'ration' instead of 'proportion' or 'ratio', and 'youngest' instead of 'adults'. The phrasing is often unnatural, such as 'had peak the day of spent working'. The student lacks the range of vocabulary necessary to describe data trends effectively. Many of the errors, such as the misuse of 'ration' and the awkward phrasing, impede the clarity of the message, making it difficult to understand the intended meaning of the data points provided.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple, error-prone sentences. There are frequent errors in basic sentence structure, verb tense, and word order, such as 'the chart gives the information how working youngest... spent their from 1958 to 2008'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, and there is a lack of complex structures. The frequency of errors is high, which often causes confusion for the reader. The response lacks the control required to convey information accurately, and the grammatical inaccuracies are pervasive throughout the text.
