Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the data and makes relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008. You have successfully identified the key trends, such as the increase in working hours and the introduction of sports. However, the overview is slightly weak; it contains some minor inaccuracies, such as stating that 'majority of adults have been working' when the data shows one-third (33%) in 1958, which is not a majority. To reach a higher band, ensure your summary accurately reflects the data presented in the charts. The selection of data is generally good, but ensure that all comparisons are mathematically accurate.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Also', and 'Interestingly' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two years. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother. For instance, the transition between the description of 1958 and 2008 could be more sophisticated to better highlight the contrast between the two time periods.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, such as 'proportion', 'insignificant', and 'moderately'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'the pie charts compares' (should be 'compare') and 'insignificant proportions were comprised of' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). You also repeat 'adults' frequently. To improve, focus on using more precise synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' (e.g., 'surged', 'plummeted', 'witnessed a decline') and ensure subject-verb agreement is consistent throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the pie charts compares', 'majority of adults have been working') and tense inconsistencies ('had been declined', 'had been introduced'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on mastering basic tense usage for describing data (usually the past simple is sufficient for historical data) and ensure that your subjects and verbs agree in number.
