Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response provides a general overview and identifies key features, such as the rise in working hours and the decline in sleeping time. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear, comparative focus. The student describes the data year by year rather than synthesising the information to highlight significant trends or contrasts. Furthermore, there are inaccuracies in the interpretation of the data, such as referring to 'young's' instead of 'adults' and misidentifying the smallest categories. To reach a higher band, you should focus on grouping data logically and ensuring that the comparisons are precise and directly supported by the figures provided in the charts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'Then' and 'Next' to start sentences. Some transitions are awkward, such as 'Looking more closely at the figure,' which does not flow naturally from the previous paragraph. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of ideas could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'working young’s' and 'spent 33% of days by working'. The repetition of 'spent' and 'percentage' limits the range of expression. While the meaning is generally clear, the word choices are often basic or slightly unnatural. To improve, you should aim to use a wider range of synonyms and more sophisticated collocations related to data description, such as 'accounted for', 'constituted', or 'witnessed a significant shift'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'between 1958 to 2008' (should be 'between 1958 and 2008'), 'there was so many changes' (subject-verb agreement), and 'started to spent' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with irregular spacing around commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and correct verb tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
