Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is inconsistent and contains inaccuracies. For example, you state that 'athletic activities remain equal', yet the data shows a change from 8% to 10%. Furthermore, the description of 'working' as 33% in 1958 and 42% in 2008 is accurate, but the overall summary is slightly confusing due to grammatical errors. The response identifies key trends but lacks the precision required for a higher band, as some comparisons are vague or incorrectly interpreted. To improve, ensure you double-check the data points and provide a clearer overview of the most significant changes between the two years.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical use of cohesive devices. Phrases like 'As an obvious comparison of sleeping time' and 'Nevertheless, huge number of people' do not connect ideas smoothly. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of the argument. While there is an attempt to use transition words, they are often used incorrectly or in a way that does not enhance the coherence of the text. Better control over paragraph structure and linking words is needed.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. There are several instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'working youngsters' (the prompt refers to 'working adults'), 'behind working', and 'going out was downed'. These errors occasionally impede communication. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle with collocations, such as 'did the athletic activities' or 'did working'. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise, academic terminology to describe trends, such as 'increased significantly', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a decline'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('people who did the athletic activities are remain equal'), tense usage ('this proportion grow to 13 percent'), and sentence structure ('the pie charts illustrate... that, how they devoted their time'). The attempt at complex sentences often results in errors that make the meaning unclear. While the basic meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering simple sentence structures before attempting more complex ones.
