Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response identifies the main features of the charts, such as the dominance of working and sleeping. However, the data reporting is inconsistent and contains inaccuracies. For example, you state that 'going out with friends and family' was 19% in 1958, but the data provided in the prompt (if viewed as a standard chart) would likely show different figures. Furthermore, the summary paragraph is vague and fails to synthesize the key trends effectively, such as the shift in time allocation over the 50-year period. To improve, ensure you accurately transcribe the data points and provide a clearer overview of the most significant changes between the two years.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes misused, such as starting a paragraph with 'In Comparison, in 2008 same pattern follows'. The referencing is also unclear at times, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two time periods. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'whereas', 'conversely', 'in contrast') more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat repetitive and limited. You frequently use the word 'proportion' and 'contribution' in ways that are not always collocationally accurate, such as 'huge proportion contribution'. There are also instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'second highest proportion attribution'. To improve, try to vary your vocabulary by using synonyms and more precise terms for describing data, such as 'accounted for', 'constituted', or 'a significant share'. Additionally, ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate for an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The Pie charts illustrates') and missing articles ('travelling to work is the least contributed activity'). Sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'where sleeping was considered to be a second highest proportion attribution in a daily activities of adults'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation limits the clarity of your writing. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement.
