Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear or accurate summary of the data. There are significant issues with data interpretation; for instance, you state that time spent with family and friends decreased by 6%, but the data provided in the prompt (if analyzed correctly) would show different trends. Furthermore, the use of informal language like 'brats' is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 response. The overview provided is vague and does not effectively highlight the most significant trends or differences between the two years. To improve, focus on accurately reporting the figures and identifying the most striking changes, such as the shift in work hours or sleep patterns, while maintaining a formal, objective tone.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward transitions and unclear referencing. Phrases like 'Heading to detail' are not standard academic signposting. While you use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'Furthermore', they are often used mechanically and do not always connect ideas logically. The progression of information feels disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between 1958 and 2008. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and contains inappropriate register choices. Using the word 'brats' to refer to children or people playing sports is highly informal and unsuitable for an IELTS Academic task. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'downfall in percentile' and 'hanging up with peers'. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to use precise terminology to describe statistical trends. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more academic collocations (e.g., 'a significant increase', 'remained stable', 'accounted for') and avoid colloquialisms or slang entirely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The pie chart illustrate', 'individuals who travel... is'), incorrect verb tenses, and awkward sentence structures (e.g., 'people use to relax'). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple or slightly flawed complex sentences. Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of grammar is weak. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage, and practice constructing more complex sentences with accurate subordinate clauses.
