Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the charts and makes relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008. You successfully identified the key trends, such as the increase in working hours and the shift in leisure activities. However, the analysis is slightly hampered by some inaccurate reporting of the data. For instance, you mention that 'relaxing at home' accounted for 19% in 1958, whereas the data shows a different figure. Additionally, the structure of the overview is a bit weak, as it repeats information rather than highlighting the most significant changes. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are transcribed accurately and that the overview provides a more concise summary of the most striking trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the other hand', 'Additionally', and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, the flow is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'they spent less time on these activities which accounted for 19% and 8% respectively'. The transition between the two time periods could be smoother to improve the overall progression of the argument. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents will help improve the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'working professionals', 'gained popularity', and 'accounted for'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'not much famous' instead of 'not very popular' and 'lost interest by people' instead of 'people lost interest in'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more sophisticated synonyms to describe trends, rather than relying on repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The given pie charts illustrates'), incorrect preposition usage ('spent their time in working'), and awkward phrasing ('a specific nation spent their hours in the year 1958 and 2008'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the data. To move to a higher band, you should focus on correcting basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your sentence construction is more accurate, particularly when describing trends over time.
