Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the task by comparing the two years, but the analysis is inconsistent. While you identify some key trends, such as the increase in working hours, the report lacks a clear overview of the most significant changes. Some data points are presented in isolation rather than being compared effectively. For instance, the description of 1958 is fragmented across two paragraphs, and the comparison between the two years could be more structured. To improve, ensure you group related data together and provide a cohesive summary of the main trends rather than listing individual percentages.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often disrupted by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In 1958' and 'On the other hand', but they are sometimes applied mechanically or incorrectly. The transition between the description of 1958 and 2008 is abrupt, and the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear progression of ideas. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly enhance the readability and coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors that occasionally impede clarity, such as 'pie chat' instead of 'pie chart' and 'elderly individual' (the prompt refers to 'working adults'). There is a reliance on basic verbs like 'were' and 'rose'. While you attempt to use some specific terminology, the lack of variety and precision in word choice limits the score. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for', and ensure accurate spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The pie chat represent', 'people travelling recording') and incorrect preposition usage ('2 percent an 19 percent'). Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors that affect the clarity of the information. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect verb tenses before submitting your work.
