Student answer (Band 6.0)
The given pie charts compare the percentage of adults spent time on various activities in a day and the data is collected from year 1958 and 2008.
It can be seen clearly from the pie charts that 33% of adults were engaged in working in 1958. This figure jumped at 42% of total in 2008. Similarly, the proportion of peoples relaxing at home also increased from 8% to 13% in the same era. The country witnessed a slight increase in percentile of seniors playing sports, it rose from 6% to 7% in the same period.
On the other hand, there were some decreasing trends also. Sleeping accounted for 32% of total in 1958. However, the percentage of it dropped at 25% in 2008. Going out with friends or family percentage also declined dramatically from 19% to only 6% adults in the same era. Surprisingly, the percentage of adults travelling to work remained constant in both years with 2% of total adults.
Overall, it is evident that proportion of working adults increased and it was the highest in both years. Whereas, the trend of going out among adults decreased significantly. Surprisingly, adults who traveled to work remained constant in both surveyed years.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main features and provided relevant comparisons between the two years. You covered all categories shown in the charts and highlighted the key trends, such as the increase in working hours and the decline in socialising. To reach a higher band, ensure you avoid minor inaccuracies in data reporting; for example, you described the 2% figure for travelling to work as 'constant', but you should clarify if this refers to the percentage of time or a specific group, as the charts represent time allocation. Overall, the response is well-structured and addresses the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for increasing and decreasing trends, and a summary. You used cohesive devices such as 'Similarly', 'On the other hand', and 'However' to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different trends. To improve, ensure that your referencing is precise; for instance, in the final paragraph, you repeat the observation about travelling to work, which is slightly redundant. Improving the flow between sentences by varying your linking words would further enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'witnessed', 'accounted for', and 'declined dramatically'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'percentile' (which refers to a statistical rank, not a percentage) and 'peoples' (which should be 'people'). Additionally, 'jumped at' is slightly unnatural; 'jumped to' would be more accurate. To achieve a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding minor errors in word form that occasionally distract from the clarity of your analysis.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is generally effective. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'percentage of adults spent time' (should be 'percentage of time adults spent') and 'dropped at' (should be 'dropped to'). The phrase 'in the same era' is used repeatedly, which is slightly repetitive. While your meaning is always clear and these errors do not impede communication, you need to demonstrate more consistent control over complex structures and prepositions to move into the higher band range.
