Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given pie chart illustrates that, how working adults in a particular country spent their time in two years 1958 and 2008. The day spent by working adults on various activities like work, relaxing at home, sleeping, travelling to work, going out with friends/family, and playing sports.

In 1958, working adults spent their 33% of the day in work however in 2008 that was 42% of the day spent in a day.

Working adults relaxing at home by 8% and 13% of their day in 1958 and 2008 respectively. Adults spent 32% of the day in sleeping while in 2008 only 25% of a day adults sleep. Transportation is very time consuming in recent times because of traffic and private vehicles due to this situation in 1958 only 2% of the day spent in travelling to work while 7% of the day in 2008 for travelling.

Before the times, working adults spent a lot of times with their family and friends of their day which is 19% however now only 6% of the day they can spent with their family and friends which defines busy schedule of routine life.

Sports is remain almost constant in both manner which is good for the working adults. Here we can see that in 5 decades the working adult more efficiently focused on work in their respective time schedule.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all key features of the pie charts and makes relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008. However, the analysis is somewhat descriptive rather than analytical. For instance, the comment about 'busy schedule of routine life' is an external opinion rather than a report of the data. While the main trends are identified, the overview is weak; it lacks a clear summary of the most significant changes, such as the shift from leisure to work. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most striking differences rather than just listing data points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, 'Before the times' is an unnatural transition, and the connection between sentences is often repetitive. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'Sports is remain almost constant in both manner', which lacks a clear link to the previous data. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'in both manner' and 'spent their 33% of the day in work'. The student relies on basic verbs like 'spent' and 'is' throughout the text. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise collocations related to data reporting, such as 'accounted for', 'witnessed a rise', or 'remained stable', and avoid repetitive sentence structures.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The given pie chart illustrates that, how working adults...', 'Sports is remain', and 'they can spent'. Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency are problematic throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for verb forms would be highly beneficial.
