Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the pie charts and provides a clear overview. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the increase in working hours and the decrease in time spent with family. However, the analysis could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the two years rather than simply listing data for each year separately. For instance, instead of stating percentages for 1958 and 2008 in isolation, you could use comparative language to highlight the magnitude of change more effectively. The data is generally accurate, though ensure all figures are clearly linked to the correct categories to avoid ambiguity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'However' to guide the reader. While the progression is clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the phrase 'in latter year it increased', which lacks a clear antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns or references clearly point back to the intended noun would help the flow of the essay feel more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accounted', 'period', and 'evident'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'accounted figure of 2%' and 'aorund' (a typo). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise reporting verbs and adverbs to describe the trends, such as 'witnessed a significant rise' or 'remained relatively stable'. The current vocabulary is functional but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('The pie charts compares', 'time... have been reduced') and missing articles ('in working', 'in latter year'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor slips that occur throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic agreement errors and ensuring consistent use of articles. Increasing the variety of complex structures, such as using relative clauses or participial phrases, would also enhance your score.
