Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 82 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the student attempts to identify main features, such as the increase in work-related time, the analysis is severely underdeveloped. Many categories from the charts are omitted, and the comparison between 1958 and 2008 is incomplete. The lack of sufficient detail and the failure to reach the required length significantly impact the overall achievement of the task, as the examiner cannot fully assess the ability to report on all relevant data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response shows a basic attempt at organization with an introduction and an overview. However, the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is minimal and sometimes misused, such as the abrupt transition in the final sentence. Paragraphing is not effectively utilized to separate the overview from the specific data points. The lack of sufficient content makes it difficult to establish a clear logical flow, and the text feels more like a collection of fragmented observations rather than a cohesive report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices and non-standard collocations, such as 'leastly travel' and 'individual's do work'. The student relies on basic terminology, and there is little evidence of the ability to use less common lexical items or precise academic vocabulary appropriate for describing data trends. Spelling errors, such as 'Peoples', further detract from the quality of the writing. To improve, the student should focus on learning specific vocabulary for describing charts, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuation', and 'significant increase'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'pie chart explain', 'individual's do work') and incorrect verb tenses. The sentence structures are simple and repetitive, with very few attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of periods. The lack of grammatical control makes the text difficult to follow. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring subject-verb agreement would be a necessary first step toward improvement.
