Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the pie charts, such as the increase in working time and the decrease in sleeping time. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains inaccuracies, such as the claim that sleeping time in 2008 was 'half of the hundred'. The interpretation of the data is occasionally confusing, and the attempt to provide a subjective opinion ('a good change in youth') is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report, which requires objective reporting. To improve, focus on accurately comparing the data points rather than evaluating them.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as 'Initially' to start a paragraph that does not describe a chronological sequence of events. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between 1958 and 2008. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'iilustrates', 'jobholder youngsters', and 'specfic'. The phrasing is often unnatural, for example, 'having half of the hundred' and 'make routine to relax'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology for describing data trends, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable', and ensure that spelling is accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('The two pie graphs iilustrates'), incorrect tense usage ('youth which use to goes out'), and awkward sentence construction. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence structure prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering simple sentence structures before attempting more complex ones.
