Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully identifies the main features of the pie charts and makes relevant comparisons between the two years. You have highlighted the significant shifts in working and sleeping patterns, as well as the stability of sports participation. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the trends. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are accurately represented; for instance, you mentioned 'going out' as the lowest in 2008, but the data suggests 'relaxing at home' or 'traveling' might have different values depending on the specific chart interpretation. Overall, the task is well-addressed with a clear focus on the key changes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the specific years. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In addition', 'By contrast', and 'Turning to' helps guide the reader through the information effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the general trends from the specific data points. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the referencing is clear throughout the text. The structure is sound and supports the overall clarity of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the data, such as 'accounted for', 'proportion', 'recorded', and 'dominantly'. The language is generally precise and appropriate for an academic report. However, there is some repetition of phrases like 'highest proportion' and 'lowest percentage'. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms or descriptive phrases to express the same concepts. The vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication, though it lacks the sophisticated, less common lexical items required for the highest band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The response demonstrates a good control of grammar with a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and punctuation is used correctly. There are no significant grammatical errors that impede understanding. While you have used some complex structures, the range could be further expanded by incorporating more varied subordinating conjunctions or passive voice constructions to describe the data. The current level of accuracy is high, and the writing is consistently clear and easy to follow throughout the response.
