Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all key features of the charts, including the main trends and specific data points for both years. You successfully identified the highest and lowest proportions and made relevant comparisons between the two time periods. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the data. To reach a higher band, ensure that you explicitly mention all categories shown in the charts; for instance, 'relaxing at home' and 'traveling to work' are mentioned, but the data for 'relaxing at home' is omitted in the body paragraphs, which is a minor omission.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the specific years. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'By contrast', 'Regarding', and 'Turning to' are used effectively to guide the reader through the data. The progression of ideas is smooth, and each paragraph has a clear central topic. The use of paragraphing is appropriate for this type of task, contributing to the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'accounted for', 'constituted', and 'recorded the highest figures' are used appropriately. However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, particularly the reliance on 'recorded' and 'represented'. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms or descriptive verbs to describe the data, such as 'comprised', 'made up', or 'fluctuated'. The spelling is accurate throughout, and the word choice is generally precise enough to communicate the intended meaning without difficulty.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the grammar is generally accurate, which ensures that the meaning is always clear. There are no significant grammatical errors that impede communication. To achieve a higher band, you could aim to use a wider variety of complex structures, such as participial phrases or more sophisticated subordinating clauses, to demonstrate greater grammatical flexibility. Currently, the sentence structures are functional but follow a somewhat predictable pattern.
