Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the pie charts and makes relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008. You successfully identified the key trends, such as the increase in working hours and the decrease in sleep. However, the analysis is slightly hindered by imprecise terminology; for example, referring to 'working individuals' as a category of time spent is inaccurate, as the charts measure time spent on activities, not the number of people. To reach a higher band, ensure that the data points are described with greater precision and that the distinction between the activity and the participants is clear throughout the report.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is clear, and you use cohesive devices such as 'By contrast' and 'Although' to link information. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the phrase 'sleeping ones' or 'working individuals', which creates minor confusion regarding whether you are discussing the activity or the people. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'exhibited', and 'dramatic changes'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For instance, 'noticeable surplus' is not the correct way to describe an increase in time spent, and 'lowest trend' is an awkward collocation. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends and ensure that your word choices accurately reflect the data presented in the charts rather than using generic descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the' before 'proportion') and awkward phrasing like 'activities was held by sleeping'. Additionally, there are minor punctuation and preposition errors throughout the text. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will help improve the accuracy of your writing.
