Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data, but it fails to cover all key features. The description of the 1958 and 2008 data is incomplete, as several categories from the charts are omitted entirely. Furthermore, the interpretation of the data is inaccurate; for instance, the student claims the 'highest ratio of young people' were working, but the prompt refers to 'working adults' in general, not specifically young people. The comparison between years is also confusingly phrased, such as stating that 'travelling to work' surged, without clearly referencing the specific percentage changes. To improve, ensure all categories are mentioned and data points are accurately transcribed from the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. While some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'In addition to this' are used, they often connect ideas that are not logically linked or are grammatically incorrect. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. The referencing is also problematic; for example, the phrase 'it is second highest actions' is unclear in its reference. To achieve a higher band, focus on using cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that progresses the argument logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and occasionally imprecise. Phrases like 'highest ratio of young people who were doing jobs' and 'second highest actions' are unnatural and imprecise for an academic report. There is also a reliance on basic vocabulary, such as 'doing jobs' or 'spending their time'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of variety and the misuse of collocations (e.g., 'logged' for percentages) limit the score. To improve, incorporate more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'segment', 'fluctuated', or 'accounted for'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it is increased with the time'), tense usage, and sentence structure (e.g., 'While, in first the least proportion is recorded'). The use of articles and prepositions is also inconsistent. While there is an attempt at complex sentence structures, these are often faulty, leading to confusion. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction and ensure that verb tenses are consistent when describing past data. Proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect word order will significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
