Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear or accurate overview. The description of the trends is often confusing or factually incorrect based on the provided charts (e.g., claiming 'sleeping' became matching with 'working' or mentioning 'emissions' which are not relevant to the task). The response is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence ('traveling to work'), which prevents a full summary of the data. While some main features are identified, the lack of clarity and the incomplete nature of the report significantly hinder the achievement of the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'In addition', and 'In contrast', but they are often used incorrectly or to link unrelated ideas. The referencing is frequently unclear, and the abrupt ending of the text creates a lack of logical flow. The paragraphing is present but does not effectively group the information to guide the reader through the comparison of the two years.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'the number of going out with friends/family' and 'fell down by numerous amount'. The word choice is often imprecise, and the student struggles to use appropriate terminology for describing data trends (e.g., 'became matching with'). The inclusion of the word 'emissions' is a significant error in lexical choice, as it is completely irrelevant to the context of time-use pie charts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede clarity. There are issues with article usage ('the adults', 'a working'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Many sentences are poorly constructed, such as '33% of adults spent on a working which makes it largest activities'. The range of structures is limited, and the errors are persistent throughout the text. The incomplete final sentence also demonstrates a lack of control over sentence completion and punctuation.
