Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all key features of the pie charts and makes relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the increase in working and travel time and the decrease in sleeping and socialising. However, the report could be improved by ensuring all data points are accurate and clearly presented. For instance, you mention that 'relaxing at home' increased, but you do not provide the specific figures to support this claim. Additionally, the overview is slightly generic. To reach a higher band, ensure that every trend mentioned is supported by specific data from the charts, and refine the overview to highlight the most significant shifts more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organised into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific trends. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'whereas', 'In contrast', and 'Similarly' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with punctuation, such as the missing space after 'Moreover' and the awkward phrasing 'Added to that that'. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring consistent punctuation would enhance the overall readability and coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'represented', 'increased', 'decreased', and 'experienced a three-fold increase'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'freinds', and some phrasing that could be more natural, such as 'the contribution of time spent relaxing'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive structures. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and flexibility required for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips and punctuation errors, such as 'it accounted 33 percent' (missing 'for') and 'Added to that that'. There are also issues with comma placement and spacing. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that complex sentences are constructed accurately, particularly when reporting data.
