Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the pie charts, identifying the key trends such as the increase in working hours and the shift in leisure activities. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the comparison between 1958 and 2008 is hindered by inaccurate data reporting; you mention 'sleeping' at 32% in 1958, but the prompt implies a focus on activity categories where some data points are misread or lack sufficient comparative depth. While you identify the main trends, the lack of precise data handling and the omission of some key comparative analysis prevents a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression from the overview to the specific years. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'On the otherside' are used incorrectly to introduce a new time period, and the transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow of ideas is interrupted by awkward phrasing, which makes the text feel disjointed in places. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic verbs like 'spent', 'utilized', and 'increased' throughout the response. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the most amount of time had spent' (grammatically awkward) and 'scenario remains same' (unnatural). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning of the charts, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, you should focus on using more varied synonyms and precise academic collocations to describe trends and data points.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There is a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. Frequent errors in article usage ('the year of 1958', 'the most amount of time'), verb tense ('had spent', 'was rose'), and punctuation (missing spaces after commas and periods) are noticeable. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to distract the reader. You need to focus on basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice, to ensure your writing is more grammatically sound.
