Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie charts compare the daily routine of working adults of a specific country in 1958 and 2008.
Overall, it is noted that in both years, mature individuals spent most of their time working. In addition, in 1958 they had to spend just a fraction of their time on traveling to work. However, in 2008 people was spending less time with their friends or family on daily basis.
In 1958, the most popular activity of the day was working, which is 33%. Second most done activity of the day was sleeping and, it made up 32% of the total time. Meanwhile, adults were spending 19% of their day with their family or friends. It is followed by relaxing at home which is 8%. Traveling to work required least time of the day which is 2%.
In 2008, during the day people were mostly busy in working at office or doing similar jobs. It contributes almost half of the piechart i.e 42%. Like 1958, second most followed activity of the day was sleeping which make up one-quarter of the day. By contrast, going out with relatives or friends was not that much important for youth as it was in the past. 6% of the time in 24 hours was spent in this activity. In addition, 7% of the total time was required to spend on traveling to work.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the pie charts, including the main trends and specific data points for both years. You successfully identified the shift in working hours and the decline in social time. However, the analysis could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the two years rather than describing them in separate paragraphs. For instance, noting that working hours increased by 9% while social time decreased significantly would provide a more analytical approach. The overview is clear, but ensure that all figures cited are accurate; for example, you mentioned 33% for work in 1958, but the chart shows 33% is actually for 'sleeping', while work is 32%. Accuracy in data reporting is essential for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'However', 'Meanwhile', and 'By contrast' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two time periods, which helps the reader follow the progression of your argument. To improve, try to vary your cohesive devices further and ensure that the logical progression between sentences is more fluid.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly, using terms like 'mature individuals', 'fraction', and 'contributes'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'most followed activity' instead of 'most common activity' or 'most popular activity'. Additionally, the phrase 'not that much important for youth' is slightly informal and imprecise for an Academic Task 1 report. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'accounted for', 'represented', or 'a significant decline'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'people was spending' (subject-verb agreement), 'which is 33%' (tense consistency), and 'make up one-quarter' (should be 'made up'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and ensure consistent use of past tense when describing historical data. Increasing the variety of complex structures, such as using relative clauses or passive voice more effectively, would also enhance your score.
