Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the charts, including the highest and lowest values and key changes over time. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview that synthesizes the data effectively. While the percentages are reported, the comparison between 1958 and 2008 could be more nuanced. For instance, the statement 'Sleeping was & % lower' contains a typo and lacks clarity. The report identifies the main trends, but the lack of precision in describing the data points and the inclusion of minor errors in data interpretation limit the score to a 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. Cohesive devices such as 'In detail', 'In comparison', and 'Ultimately' are used to link ideas, though some transitions feel a bit forced or repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the referencing is occasionally awkward, such as in the phrase 'in respective second year'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the detailed data analysis, which helps the reader follow the structure of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'spent their whole day time', 'highest spending', and 'giong with friends'. The student relies on basic descriptors and struggles with collocations related to data reporting. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of sophisticated vocabulary and the presence of spelling errors (e.g., 'woking', 'giong') prevent a higher score. More precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a decline', would improve the quality.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('had increase it is proportion'), subject-verb agreement errors ('which was stands at'), and awkward sentence construction ('Adults spent their highest time in woking'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence structure is noticeable. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur regularly enough to suggest a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms.
