Student answer (Band 6.5)
The pie charts illustrate the amount of time spent by working adults six activities in a particular country in 1958 and 2008.
Overall, the percentage of time spent on working, relaxing at home, playing sports and travelling to work increased over the period, while the remaining categories decreased. Working was by far the most leading activity in both years, whereas going out with friends became the least favored activity in 2008.
Working accounted for the largest share in both years, at 33% in 1958, when then rose to 42% in 2008. Similarly, relaxing at home climbed from 8% to 15% by 2008. The least amount of time was spent on travelling to work in 1958, at 2%, followed by a rise to 7% in the second year. Playing sports also displayed a slight upward trajectory to 7% over the period, matching the figure of travelling to work.
In contrast, going out with family and friends stood at 19% in 1958, after which this figure dropped to 6% in 2008. Meanwhile, although sleeping experienced a decline from 32% in 1958 to 25% in 2008, it still hold its second position.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully identified the main features and provided a clear overview of the trends. You covered all categories and made relevant comparisons between the two years. However, there is a factual error in your summary: you stated that 'relaxing at home' increased, but the data (if interpreted as standard pie charts for this task) often shows a decrease or specific shift; more importantly, your claim that 'working was by far the most leading activity' is slightly inaccurate as 'sleeping' was higher in 1958. Ensure you double-check the data points before writing. Overall, the response is well-structured and addresses the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Similarly', 'In contrast', and 'Meanwhile' effectively to guide the reader through the data. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the increasing trends from the decreasing ones. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the referencing is clear throughout the text. To reach a higher band, ensure that the transition between sentences feels even more natural and less mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'upward trajectory', 'accounted for the largest share', and 'least favored activity' are used well. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'most leading activity' (which is redundant) and 'it still hold its second position' (grammatical error affecting lexical precision). To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing when describing trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. Most of your sentences are clear and easy to follow. However, there are a few grammatical slips, such as 'it still hold' (should be 'held') and 'when then rose' (should be 'which then rose'). Additionally, the opening sentence 'spent by working adults six activities' is missing a preposition (e.g., 'on six activities'). Despite these errors, they do not impede communication, and your control of tense is generally consistent.
