Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the pie charts and makes relevant comparisons. You successfully identified the key trends, such as the increase in working hours and the decrease in time spent with family. However, the analysis is slightly hampered by inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, stating that commuting increased by 'three and half folds' is not supported by the data, and the claim that 'majority of total time were spent by working' is inaccurate, as sleeping and other activities occupy larger portions. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are cited with greater precision and that the overview accurately reflects the most significant trends across the entire dataset.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific categories. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'To be more precise', and 'In the later year' helps guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'in the both year' or 'in both case'. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect the data points more fluidly rather than listing them in a repetitive manner.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey the main points, using terms like 'declined', 'increased', and 'plummeted'. However, there are several spelling errors ('pi', 'catagories', 'plummented', 'remarkabley') and awkward collocations ('secondly preferable', 'one third portioned'). These errors occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that you proofread for common spelling mistakes. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' would also help demonstrate a more flexible command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('majority of total time were spent'), article usage ('in the both year'), and prepositional errors ('compare to the 1958'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To achieve a higher band, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the use of articles and consistent verb tenses when describing past and present data.
