Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the pie charts, identifying the primary activities in 1958 and 2008. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The overview is slightly inaccurate, as it mentions 'bored of playing sports' in 2008, which is an interpretation not supported by the data. Furthermore, the comparison between the two years is limited. To reach a higher band, you should focus on clearly highlighting the most significant changes, such as the increase in working hours and the decrease in time spent sleeping, rather than simply listing percentages for each category. Ensure your summary remains objective and avoids subjective interpretations like 'bored'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. For example, the transition 'while, they were least interested' is grammatically awkward and does not effectively link the ideas. The referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'they' to refer to different groups of people. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'consequently', 'whereas') to create a smoother flow between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'used their minutes' and 'spent'. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'youngesters', 'grown-up people', and 'mature people', which are not appropriate for an academic report. Additionally, there are spelling errors like 'relaxe' and 'spenting'. To improve, you should aim to use more precise, academic vocabulary to describe data trends, such as 'allocated', 'devoted', 'proportion', and 'fluctuated'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repeating the same phrases throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., '6% of adults goes out'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'adults had used their minutes'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'illustrate the information of working of young generation'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that your verb tenses are consistent when describing past data.
