Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the charts and makes relevant comparisons between 1958 and 2008. You successfully identified the key trends, such as the increase in working hours and the decline in social time. However, the overview is slightly weak; while it mentions the rise in working time, it could be more comprehensive by highlighting the most significant shifts across all categories. Additionally, some data points are slightly imprecise, such as describing 33% as 'one third' and 42% as 'comparatively higher', which is acceptable but could be more analytical. Overall, the response addresses the prompt well and provides a clear summary of the data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into four paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Overall', 'In 1958', and 'However', to transition between sections. However, the use of linking words is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. For instance, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'the remaining time were divided', where the connection to the previous sentence could be tighter. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the information is presented in a coherent manner.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'respectively', 'comparatively', and 'employed adults'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that slightly hinder the flow. For example, 'hangout time' is too informal for an Academic Task 1 report, and 'get lessen' is grammatically incorrect. You also rely on some repetitive phrasing, such as 'least amount of time was spent'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends and proportions, such as 'accounted for', 'constituted', or 'witnessed a significant increase'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For example, subject-verb agreement issues are common, such as 'The pie charts compares' (should be 'compare') and 'the working time... were' (should be 'was'). There are also errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'spent most of their time for working' (should be 'spent... working'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
