Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the provided data. However, there are significant inaccuracies in the reporting of figures. For example, you state that working hours rose to 42 percent, but you incorrectly describe the 1958 figure as 33 percent when the data shows 33 percent for 1958 and 42 percent for 2008. Furthermore, the description of 'travelling to work' as decreasing is factually incorrect based on the provided data, as it increased from 2% to 7%. The overview is also weak, as it fails to clearly highlight the most significant trends. To improve, ensure you carefully transcribe data and focus on identifying the most prominent changes rather than listing every figure.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. While you use some cohesive devices like 'In contrast' and 'On the other hands', they are often used incorrectly or do not effectively link the ideas. The progression of information is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two years. To improve, focus on using transition words more accurately and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus, such as grouping similar trends together rather than listing them randomly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic verbs like 'is' or 'show' and struggle with word choice, such as 'twice pi charts' instead of 'two pie charts' and 'plying sport' instead of 'playing sports'. There are also issues with word forms, such as 'highly increase' instead of 'a significant increase'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with precision. To improve, practice using a wider variety of reporting verbs (e.g., 'accounted for', 'witnessed', 'remained constant') and ensure you use the correct terminology for describing trends and proportions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'pi charts illustrates'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Sentence structures are mostly simple and often fragmented, such as 'while give the proportion of the day send by working adults'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with periods placed incorrectly within sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and article usage.
