Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully identifies the main features and makes relevant comparisons between the two years. You have highlighted key trends, such as the increase in working hours and the decrease in sleeping time. However, the overview is slightly repetitive, as the second paragraph essentially restates the introduction. To improve, ensure the overview synthesizes the most significant changes rather than just describing the charts again. You have included all necessary data points, and the comparison between 1958 and 2008 is clear and well-supported by the provided figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Similarly', 'On the other hand', and 'In contrast to' to guide the reader through the data. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more refined. For instance, the second paragraph is quite short and overlaps with the third. Improving the flow between sentences by varying your linking words would help achieve a more natural progression of ideas throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'plummeted', 'surged', and 'proportion' effectively to describe the data. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'maximum ratio of adults' (should be 'highest proportion') and 'playing sports time' (should be 'time spent playing sports'). While these errors do not impede communication, using more precise academic collocations would elevate your score. You have successfully avoided repetitive phrasing by using a variety of verbs to describe trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'maximum percentage of adults is spending' (should be 'spent') and 'time for travelling to work and relaxation time at home surged 7% and 13% respectively' (missing 'by'). Additionally, some articles are missing or misused. Despite these errors, your meaning remains clear throughout the response. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring consistent verb tense usage and refining your control over prepositions and articles.
