Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response covers all key features of the pie charts and makes relevant comparisons between the two years. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the increase in working time and the decrease in socialising. The overview is clear and highlights the most significant shifts. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are accurate; for instance, you mentioned that working and sleeping accounted for almost two-thirds of the day in 1958, but 33% and 32% actually total 65%, which is slightly more than two-thirds. Additionally, ensure that all comparisons are precise to avoid minor inaccuracies in data reporting.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'However', and 'similarly' to link ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to group related information. To improve, ensure that punctuation around these devices is consistent; for example, there are some spacing issues before commas (e.g., 'Overall ,'). Improving the flow between sentences by varying your transition words will help the text feel more natural and cohesive, moving it closer to a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'accounted for the largest proportion' and 'dropping sharply' are used effectively. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'significent' instead of 'significant' and 'Thw' instead of 'The'. While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more precise academic collocations would enhance the quality. For example, instead of 'number of playing sports', you could use 'the proportion of time dedicated to sports'. The current range is sufficient for a band 6.5, but with more careful proofreading, it could easily reach a 7.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as missing articles ('making it largest category' should be 'making it the largest category') and minor prepositional errors ('risen 42%' should be 'risen to 42%'). Punctuation is generally functional but occasionally inconsistent with spacing. The grammatical errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will help improve your accuracy.
